Chelsea:

Asmir Begovic: 3

Did a decent job whenever he was called and was better at collecting crosses from corners even after heavy crowding by the League One side.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 4

Dominated the flanks and made zero errors of passing, position or defending and even made lovely forays while attacking, providing an outlet to the wingers each and every time they were cornered.

Gary Cahill: 3

Was decent throughout and did manage to make a hash of a simple clearance to set van Veen free on the wing but made up for that with a great block previously in the match.

Kurt Zouma: 4.5

A brilliant defender who has evolved into an undroppable player in the Chelsea squad at the moment. He made another amazing customary Zouma tackle on van Veen from Cahill’s giveaway and kept the opponents at bay with ease during the match.

Branislav Ivanovic: 3

Was a decent attacking outlet, setting up Costa with a tremendous cross from out on the right flank and made life difficult for the corresponding winger but was prone to getting caught on the ball and was lucky that he wasn’t punished for those errors.

Cesc Fabregas: 4

Was sublime in possession and provided with the pass of the match with a stunning ball to Pedro which he failed to convert. Was a little passive while defending and was not really tracking back as expected from him.

Ramires: 1.5

Disappointing outing from the Brazilian who failed with the ball at his feet as well as without it. Gave away possession cheaply very often and was the sole reason for many a broken Chelsea attacks.

Pedro Rodrigues: 2

Decent runs and a good shot were his contribution to the match but it did left more to be desired as he is a player of much higher quality than his performance suggested.

Oscar: 2.5

Was decent and managed to link up extremely well with Costa for the half he played. Did exhibit poor passing and was not really as inclined to track back as he generally is.

Willian: 3

A great outlet for Chelsea on the counter, was let down by his teammates often with disappointing passes. Was crisp in possession and managed to scare the opponents more than once with direct play, finally culminating in an assist.

Diego Costa: 4.5

Great play from the inform striker who managed to score with a deft flick and was instrumental in the play for the second goal. Help up the ball really well and managed excellent link up play especially with Oscar.

Ruben Loftus Cheek: 4

The midfielder replaced Oscar at the break and had a lovely goal to his name with a deft finish from his left foot. Displayed multiple moments of skill and used his physicality against the opponents with veteran ease.

Kenedy: 3

Was a lively performance from the youngster who replaced Pedro over the hour mark and terrified the opposing defence with a direct and single minded approach towards the goal.

Scunthorpe United:

Luke Daniels: 4

Made great saves from Fabregas and Pedro and managed to collect a few crosses over the match.

Laird: 2

Was disappointing in defence and didn’t really deliver with set pieces.

Wallace: 3

Decent defending as would be expected from the player.

Mirfin: 3

Managed along with Wallace to keep Costa at bay. Decent performance.

Dawson: 2.5

Managed to press with conviction but didn’t prevent Fabregas from running the show.

Ness: 3

Did as was expected of the player and managed to pile on pressure later on.

Bishop: 2.5

Was decent throughout the game and made important covering runs as the play wore on.

Williams: 3

Decent play from the midfielder who managed the first shot on target for the Iron.

Madden: 2

Anonymous game for the leading scorer as van Veen was the one making all the splashes.

Van Veen: 3.5

Managed to trouble the Chelsea back line every time he had the ball and displayed a decent skillset as he chased a goal against the Champions.
