There is no stopping Virat Kohli at all. With every passing game, the India skipper is setting the benchmark just higher. Just a couple of days after his sublime ton on a tough Nagpur pitch, the 30-year old scored yet another ton in the ongoing third game in Ranchi and it was even better than his previous ton. Chasing an improbable 314, India were in deep trouble after losing Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu for just 27 runs on the board. MS Dhoni did not last long either.
However, Kohli held firm and went on to score another sizzling ton to keep India in contention. It was his 41st ton in ODIs. Kohli now has the most hundreds in India-Australia ODIs in India. The record was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. This was his 8th ODI hundred against Australia. This was also his third century against Australia this year.

With Kohli going strong from one end, it looked like he would take India all the way. However, a moment of madness saw him missing a delivery from Adam Zampa and his breathtaking knock came to a heartbreaking end. The leg-break from Zampe drifted in and with Kohli going for a big stride, it nearly became a yorker. The ball then sneaked through before dismantling the leg-stump. Zampa was pumped and so was Australia as they knew they were on the driver’s seat. Kohli scored 123 off just 95 balls to keep India in contention.

India, meanwhile, were all for 281. As a result of the win, Australia have now kept the five-match series alive.
