The results in the month of December saw Louis van Gaal close to losing his job at Manchester United, but the recent results has given the Dutch manager some more time at Old Trafford.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport has come out with an interesting take on the present situation of the 64 year old in England.

Vincenzo Morabito who was interviewed by the Italian newspaper spoke about a number of issues presently in the Premier League.

One of the most interesting parts of his interview was when he spoke about how Van Gaal was able to keep his job after coming so close to losing it.

Morabito said, “United are looking for a few reinforcements, but Van Gaal is in a “limbo phase”: he is lucky to have on his side the players that did not want Mourinho.”

It is an intriguing side of the story with many pundits and bookies in England dismissing the Dutchman’s chances at the Old Trafford franchise.

Louis van Gaal was one the verge of leaving the club but the franchise owners at Manchester United had only one real option in Jose Mourinho as his replacement.

But the Portuguese manager is known to have his own set of baggage which reportedly scared off a group of players at United.

At the moment, United cannot go to an interim manager in a hope to make things better and cannot appoint Mourinho with the players looking unsettled.

Thus Van Gaal now looks sure to end the season at Manchester United at which time the owners can think about alternatives and for his position.

However, a lot can happen over the course of 4 months and it will be interesting to see if Van Gaal is still on the brink of an exit.
