Senior Indian National Cricket team batsman Ajinkya Rahane has backed Virat Kohli-led Indian National Cricket team to win their third title in the upcoming ICC World Cup. The extravaganza will kick off on May 30 with a game between England and South Africa at the Oval. With the tournament just two months away, players and pundits are picking their favourites thick and fast, and Rahane is the latest addition to it.

Rahane backs Virat Kohli & Co

The men in blues have been playing outstanding cricket across the globe and has defeated teams like South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand on their home soil. However, their recent snubbing against the Aussies has raised a lot of questions on their batting order. The batting has looked unsettled as they are still striving for a perfect combination. This may force skipper Virat Kohli to bat at no four to provide stability in the middle order. Despite all these problems, Ajinkya Rahane has backed his country to go all the way when the tournament starts. Rahane, who was a part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad believes the key is to give 100 percent in every game.

I think personally we (India) have a very strong side. The cricket which we are playing recently is magnificent. The challenge in the World Cup will be to gather that momentum early and continue that. But I feel in ICC tournaments, it is important to give your best in each and every game,” Rahane said to ESPNcricinfo.

Besides, Ajinkya Rahane has also picked New Zealand as one of the possible contenders to win the title. The Black Caps have always maintained a low profile and have concentrated on doing their job. They have a settled team under the leadership of Kane Williamson who can pose a threat to other teams. Also, he feels Windies can be a bit unpredictable and can be a dangerous side along with host England. Jason Holder & Co recently provided a tough challenge to the top-ranked ODI side, England.

Apart from India, New Zealand is a very good ODI side and do well in ICC tournaments. West Indies is unpredictable but dangerous team and also England. Playing England in England is going to be challenging,” Rahane added.

Indian National Cricket Team will begin their campaign against South Africa on June 5.
