Sourav Ganguly has recently joined Ricky Ponting in the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). While Delhi have roped in Ganguly as the advisor of the side, Ponting has been the head coach for Delhi since last year. The duo will now work together to bring some glory for the Capitals in the cash-rich league.

The Delhi based franchise is one of the few teams who are yet to lift the coveted trophy. In a bid to do so, they have made an array of changes to break the jinx. First and foremost, they changed the franchise name to Delhi Capitals, previously known as Delhi Daredevils. Besides, they also made a change in their support staffs and are desperate to win the trophy.

Ganguly’s presence will be massive

Speaking about the bond he shares with Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting said that they share a very close association. He also added that his presence in and around the group would be a massive help in the season. The former Aussie skipper also said that he is looking forward to working with him.

Sourav and I have always got along really well. He is pretty close to us now as an advisor. He was with us for the first practice session and will be travelling along with the team too. His knowledge and experience around our team will be a really good thing for us. I am looking forward to working with him,” Ponting told India Today.

Iyer will be one of the leading run-scorers

Ricky Ponting also shared high praise for his skipper Shreyas Iyer both as a skipper and a batsman. The head coach has kept a close eye on Iyer who has led Mumbai and India A in domestic crickets. Hailing Iyer, Ponting said that he is an exceptional talent and has handed the leadership very well. The former cricketer is also helpful that Iyer can finish as one of the top run-scorers at the end of the season.
“Look Shreyas did a really job last season, having been a young guy thrust into the position of captaining in the IPL. It wasn’t an easy thing for him but he handled it really well. He has been captaining Mumbai and also India A during the last 12 months. He will be a lot better for that. He is a terrific young boy, exceptional talent and has had a really good domestic season coming into the IPL. I hope he will be one of the leading run-scorers again this year and hopefully, his captaincy stands up under pressure,” Ponting concluded.
