In what might be the biggest transfer of this transfer window, English Premier League side Newcastle United are reportedly just a step away from bringing ex-Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner back to the Premier League.

The Denmark international has struggled stay fit and will have to improve on his fitness after returning to the German club after the winter break. He was reportedly made to do laps of the training pitch after returning to the club.

Wolfsburg head coach Dieter Hecking admitted recently that he is not happy with the forward who is now out of favor and out of shape.

Speaking to media, Hecking said, “Nicklas has to run because he obviously did not carry out our training plans 100 per cent. It’s evident that he did not work enough during the winter break, and thus he either has to catch up on those runs or pay a fine.”

Though this fitness row will scare many clubs away, Premier League strugglers Newcastle United are ready to pounce on the opportunity to snatch a striker to help ease the pressure on their front line with the likes of Cisse injured for most of the campaign.

German newspapers Bild and Nachrichten reported that Bendtner’s agent has already negotiated a deal for the forward to return to England just a year and a half after leaving Arsenal for Wolfsburg.

And it is now reported that the Magpies are within touching distance to acquiring his signature and are on the verge of making an official announcement later this week.

Having played just 5 matches for the German club this season, Bendtner will love a chance to come back to England and start his career once again after failing to impress many in his first sting in the country.
