The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick off tomorrow and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings are slated to play Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener of the tournament. Royal Challengers Bangalore has been one of the perennial underachievers of the tournament. However, since season 1, RCB has a formidable side and on their day has the ability to outclass any team on their day.
Chennai Super Kings made their comeback in the tournament only last year and they had a fitting end to the tournament. The yellow brigade won the title defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Shane Watson played a match-winning knock in the final and smashed an unbeaten century. Chennai was by far the most consistent team in the tournament.
Courtesy their victory, Chennai Super Kings became the most successful team in the IPL with 3 titles to their name. The yellow brigade was one of the most consistent teams of the tournament along with Sunrisers Hyderabad and winning the title was the perfect way they would have hoped to finish their tournament campaign.
On the other hand, it should be a make or break season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They have not performed to their potential and despite having the two best batsmen of the world n their franchise, RCB has never managed to keep their cool and lift the title. In Virat Kohli, they have a sensational batsman and a leader who has the ability to change the course of the match in a few overs.
Since the initial years, RCB has been one of the favourites of the fans. However, an IPL trophy has eluded them despite reaching the final on a couple of occasions. They would definitely look to change their fortunes this time around and look to lift their maiden IPL title. In just over 24 hours we will be witnessing the IPL opener between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
