Everton are ready to make a move for Arsenal’s second choice goalkeeper David Ospina as Roberto Martinez is keen to bolster his options in the goalkeeping position.
Arsenal signed Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer and since then he has been the first choice keeper for Arsene Wenger.
After the arrival of the former Blues shot-stopper at the Emirates, the Colombian has been forced to warm the bench, featuring only in three games in all competitions this term. Wojciech Szczesny was allowed to leave Emirates as he joined Italian outfits Roma on a season-long loan back in the summer. Ospina overthrew Wojciech Szczesny to become the no. 1 goalkeeper for Arsenal last season, but then fall back as the reserve keeper behind Petr Cech.
A report from Daily Mail now claims that Ospina is very unhappy with the lack of playing time with the North Londoners. He doesn’t want to be seen as the second choice keeper and is also aware that it will be next to impossible to win back the No 1 spot from Cech.
Apart from the Everton, even Turkish giants Besiktas are interested to secure his signature. The Turkish club’s vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi has already publicly spoke about his interest in signing the unhappy goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
“We are interested in Ospina. Him and goalkeepers of his calibre, but just because we want him does not mean he will come. We have to agree with his club and take his contract into consideration,” the Besiktas vice-president told the Evening Standard.
Arsenal are right now sitting on top of the Premier League table and are a serious contender to win the title this season.
However, The Mail suggests Wenger is not in a mood to let go the stopper this month as he still wants the 27-year-old Colombian be the backup for Petr Cech.
The French manager is reportedly ready to review the current situation when the season ends. If Everton and Besiktas fail to sign the Colombian in January transfer window, they will have a good chance to secure the deal in the summer. As per Mirror’s reports, Szczesny will take Ospina’s place in the team next season if Ospina decides to leave. The Polish keeper has enjoyed a pretty impressive year at Roma till now. The loan move looks like was a good one for him to rediscover his form.
