Virat Kohli had a forgettable start to this Indian Premier League both as a captain and as a batsman. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper could score only 6 runs as Chennai Super Kings mauled his team by seven wickets after bowling them out for just 70. Virat Kohli and his troop will now be looking to open their account this season when they take on Mumbai Indians at their home ground on Thursday.
Mumbai Indians are themselves coming into the contest with a defeat. The three-time IPL winners had lost their opener to Delhi Capitals by 37 runs while chasing an improbable 214. Both the teams will be keen to move over their poor start to the season and start afresh from the upcoming game.

During the game, Kohli will have an opportunity to achieve a major milestone. The right-hander is just 46 runs away from scoring 5,000 runs in the IPL. If he manages to score those 46 runs, he will become the second player after Suresh Raina to achieve this feat. Both Raina and Kohli had the chance to become the first player to 5,000 runs in the first game of the season. In fact, Kohli had the first chance to enter the record books as Royal Challengers Bangalore were batting first.
However, he could score only 6 of the required 52 runs. Raina, on the other hand, needed 15 runs to get the milestone and he scored 19 to achieve it.
So far, Kohli has amassed 4954 runs in 164 matches in the IPL at an average of 38.10. The 30-year-old has scored four centuries and 34 half-centuries in his IPL career. He also holds the record for most runs scored in a single season when he scored a staggering 973 runs during the 2016 season. During that season, he had scored 4 tons, helping Royal Challengers storm to the final.

Here is a list showing the top run-scorers in the history of IPL:
