Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers, on Thursday, became just the third overseas player and tenth overall to score 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League. David Warner and Chris Gayle are the only other foreigners with 4000 runs under their belt in the IPL. De Villiers achieved the incredible milestone against Mumbai Indians on Thursday.’
The former South Africa skipper needed 38 before the start of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s match against three-time IPL champions. And by the time the match finished, de Villiers was unbeaten on 70 off 41 deliveries. The hard-hitting batsman has now scored more than 4,000 runs in 143 games with the help of 3 hundreds and 28 fifties.
He started his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) before moving to Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011. Since then, he has become a batting mainstay of the team. De Villiers enjoyed his most prolific season in 2016 when he scored 687 runs, helping the Royal Challengers make it to the final.

In the same game, Virat Kohli became the second player after Suresh Raina to score 5,000 IPL runs. The India skipper also became the first player to score 5,000 runs for a single IPL team. Kohli needed exactly 46 runs to achieve the milestone and he scored exactly that.
