South Africa speedster Dale Steyn has given a suggestion on Mankad after Krunal Pandya warned Mayank Agarwal for backing up too much at the non-striker’s end. The Mankad has been the talk of IPL 12 after Ravichandran Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler in similar fashion during an earlier game in the tournament.

In today’s match between Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab, it was Krunal Pandya who actually warned Mayank Agarwal for leaving the crease way too early which is not allowed in cricket. Hence Dale Steyn gave a suggestion that if umpires can warn the bowlers for running on the danger area then same should be done if a batsman is backing up way too much. He even asked for a 5 runs penalty and if the batsman continues doing the same, then he doesn’t have a problem with Mankad.

“So here’s a Mankad suggestion. Why not get the 3rd umpire to check the front foot for no balls, if he/she notices a batter leaving their ground prior to delivery he/she can then issue either a warning or 5 penalty runs. If the batter continues, Mankad comes in no worries,” Steyn wrote on his Twitter handle.

Ravichandran Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler in an unsporting fashion and got criticised by the whole cricketing world. He didn’t give a warning and actually waited for Buttler to get out of the crease. It irked many experts and former cricketers with Shane Warne describing it as a disgrace of the game.

However, Ashwin defended his decision and said it was a spontaneous call and it has always been his say on this matter. It was not the first time that Ashwin had Mankad a batsman. Back in 2012, Ashwin had Mankaded a Sri Lankan batsman but it was the intervention of Sachin Tendulkar which actually made Virender Sehwag withdraw the appeal.
