Arsenal and Liverpool target Granit Xhaka could leave Borussia Monchenglabach according to the club’s director of sport, Max Eberl, provided a tempting over is received.

Monchengladbach signed Xhaka from Basel in 2012 and he still has 3 and a half years left on his contract but that doesn’t mean that Xhaka cannot be sold. Xhaka has reportedly attracted interest from a host of European clubs – Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Eberl has admitted that ‘Gladbach would be unable to turn down a substantial bid for the 23-year-old Swiss international.

“It depends a bit on our own sporting success, it depends on Granit’s own performances and of course it depends on the figures,” Eberl told WDR 2 radio.

‘If they reach a certain dimension, then you could get dizzy. There are always situations in which every club would have to make considerations.’

However, Eberl says that Gladbach are not under any pressure to sell Xhaka and hopes that offers that are too-good-to-refuse do not arrive.
‘It is all in our own hands,’ he said. ‘As things stand, we are happy to have him with us and hopefully he will stay with us for a long time.’

Liverpool were recently linked with a bid for the 23 year old by German newspaper BILD while Arsenal are said to be closely monitoring his progress. Both teams need a midfielder and their interest in the in-form Xhaka is understandable. Last week, Xhaka’s father did not rule out Arsenal’s interest in the midfielder but said that “several big clubs” are interested in him and “everything is possible” regarding his future. Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the Swiss international.

Xhaka was recently appointed the captain of Monchengladbach and has made over a 100 appearances for the Foals and is more likely to leave at the end-of-the season. Signing Xhaka would not be cheap as his price reported to be as high as £37million.
