Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bowlers staged an outstanding comeback after an early flourish by Delhi Capitals (DC) batsmen to beat them by 14 runs at PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Young English all-rounder Sam Curran bagged a hattrick to seal the tie.
Defending a moderate target, skipper Ravichandran Ashwin provided Kings with a perfect start dismissing youngster Prithvi Shaw in the first ball of the run-chase. The veteran off-spinner bowled a routine off-break which skidded off the pitch to find the outside edge of Shaw, straight to the hands of KL Rahul. Since then, Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan added 61 runs for the second wicket to bail Delhi Capitals out of danger. However, a screamer of a delivery rattled the timber of Iyer of Hardus Viljoen.
Kings XI Punjab utilised the momentum to get out another set batsman Shikhar Dhawan to make a comeback to the game. Striving at 82 for three, the onus was on two left-handers – Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram. The game was in for a perfect finish with 50 runs required from 36 balls. Just when things looked in Delhi Capitals favour, Mohammed Sham dismissed Rishabh Pant while Sam Curran got the better Colin Ingram to shift the momentum of the game. Shami and Sam Curran bowled well in tandem to seal the game in their favour.
Miller- Mandeep combines to help Punjab post 150+
Meanwhile, not having Chris Gayle at the top hampered Kings XI Punjab as they managed to post only 166 runs at the halfway stage. They lost KL Rahul and his surprise opening partner Sam Curran within the powerplay. To make things worse, they also lost Mayank Agarwal to reel at 58 for three within 7.1 overs. Sarfaraz Khan who has been among the runs kept the scoreboard ticking without making a major dent. The hopes were pinned on David Miller to get them to a par total, but he departed right at the start of the last four overs.

Miller (43) and Mandeep Singh (29) helped them go over the 150-run mark. But Kagiso Rabada brought his deadly yorkers into the game to skittle the lower order for 166 runs. With two back to back wins, Kings XI Punjab will be oozing with confidence and wish to continue the winning run in the games to follow.

Great illustration today of why set batsmen must finish the game. This is an epic collapse from Delhi Capitals.

This is the reason why #Iyer is not in the race for No. 4 spot in #Indian team. It's high time he should do justice with his talent. #KXIPvDC @IPL @DelhiCapitals
