Manchester United are about to win one over their top flight rivals by acquiring the signature of one of the hottest properties in Europe.
Footballer Insider sources have revealed that the Old Trafford franchise have invited Matthew Knox to a trial in a bid to beat its fellow teams in the Premier League to his signature.
At 16 years of age, the Scottish striker has already had trials with Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton and has been scouted by Chelsea recently.
But it is now understood that Manchester United are ready to lure the striker and are planning to sign a deal before the end of the January transfer window,
Knox became the youngest player to play for Livingston when he made his debut in the Boxing Day fixture this season just 4 days after his 16th birthday. He was on the bench for his club in the loss to the Rangers.
He has however travelled to Manchester on Monday for his trial and will spend the week at Carrington training complex in Manchester.
Knox’s father has revealed that his son will be a part of the Premier League club this season in an interview. Speaking to the media, Knox senior said, “He’s had interest from Manchester United and Chelsea and he’s been on trials at Spurs, Everton and Liverpool.
“We’ve had interest from another club in the last couple of days, and we’re pretty close to doing a deal – I can’t say who but I think that’s where he’ll end up.”
The youngster impressed many in his trials at the big clubs and has already shown maturity beyond his age according to some reports.
“He scored for Spurs – he actually scored for all the clubs he’s been on trial at – but he scored for Spurs in a North London derby [practice match] against Arsenal – and not many 16-year-old kids can say that,” his father added.”
It will be an important deal for both parties as United are scouting for some home-grown talent while it will be a dream come true for Knox to be a part of the Red Devils at such a tender age.
