Manchester United have suddenly put their major transfer bids on hold due to the increasing uncertainty over Louis van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford.
On Wednesday Daily Mirror reported that van Gaal may step down a year early, at the end of this term, because of the increasing pressure of the job at Manchester United.
United hierarchy are also facing growing concern about the Dutch manager’s long-term stay, and there is a high possibility that he will not be able to survive at Old Trafford if he does not guarantee Champions League football for the next season.
The concerns regarding van Gaal’s future have grown in recent weeks following the ups and downs this term, prompting the United hierarchy to postpone their potential big deals for the time being.
Over the past few weeks Manchester United were analysing the possibility of bringing in 35 million pound rated Felipe Anderson from Serie A side Lazio this January.
Lazio were apparently ready to do business with United, but the Red Devils have now interestingly shelved their interest in the highly rated midfielder until Louis van Gaal’s Old Trafford future is resolved.
But why they don’t want to splash out big on transfer targets this month? The possible reason according to sources close to the club suggest, if van Gaal decides to leave in the summer and his successor doesn’t want the players signed in the winter window, then it will be a total chaos at Old Trafford.
United however, have some ambitious plans for the close-season, which includes another move for Gareth Bale, and have also decided to wait until the dream signing before spending more in the summer transfer market.
The decision to shelve all the major deals during this transfer window indicates the increasing uncertainty over Louis van Gaal’s fate.
Last month the United officials were reportedly ready to allow the 64-year-old manager see out the final year of his contract giving him another opportunity to justify his credentials.
But United’s indifferent form so far along with the growing pressure on van Gaal from his own family to leave Old Trafford as soon as possible have forced them to remain more open-minded and the majority of the high level officials have started to consider managerial alternatives for next season.
Manchester United legend and van Gaal No.1 assistant Ryan Giggs, currently jobless former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone and even Bayern Munich’s outgoing Pep Guardiola are all being considered as the next Old Trafford boss.
