The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office-bearers will meet the government officials of Tamil Nadu to decide on the future of MA Chidambaram Stadium popularly known as Chepauk over hosting the grand finale of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The BCCI officials will urge the government to open the three stands –  I, J and K — at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium for the final. Otherwise, the board will have to shift the pinnacle clash from Chennai to some other venues. However, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association officials are hopeful that the government officials will not want to let go of the final game from Chennai.

Chennai Corporation have sealed three stands – I, J and K after finding discrepancies on the plan approval process during construction. The Corporation gave sanction after the 2011 World Cup, and since then it has been used only once. Chennai Corporation gave special permission during the 2012 India-Pakistan game. As the defending champions, Chennai was allotted the opening match of the season, two playoff games and the final. However, the broadcasters have raised concerns over it as it doesn’t make for good viewing.

A TNCA official said that they are trying all to make the association, but ultimately the government is the only decision-making body. He also added that the officials are extremely busy now with the general election round the corner. But they are still hopeful for some positives to happen.

“We are making efforts. However, since it is the time of the general elections, the political leadership and the administration is very busy in their own spheres. Let us see how it goes,” he explained.

Meanwhile, defending champions, Chennai Super Kings have a high chance that they will qualify for the playoffs. If that’s the case, MS Dhoni & Co will want to play the playoffs on their home turf which they have turned it into their fortress. They are currently at the top of the points table with 10 points from six games and will look to hold on that spot in the games to follow.
