Since moving to Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal has made some big money deals to bring some world class players to the Manchester franchise. But injuries to key players and lack of confidence in the squad has seen the manager dive into the transfer window once again this January.
Recent reports suggest that Van Gaal wants to bring Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand to United before the close of the transfer window.
Ashley Young is the recent victim of a groin injury leaving Manchester United short of options at the back and according to the Daily Star, they have identified Ryan Bertrand as the possible replacement in this January window.
With Young out for two months and Luke Shaw missing most of the season, the Southampton full back is now on the wish list for the Red Devils.
However, they will have to bid in excess of the 20 million mark if they are to take Bertrand away from the Saints as Ronald Koeman is understood to be adamant not to let one of his key players leave in the middle of the season.
The 26 year old moved to the St Marys last summer in a 10 million transfer and has since become a first choice player for the Saints.
He also impressed enough to earn a national team call up under Roy Hodgson making him an star player in the country.
It will be hard for United to get their hands on the full back and will have to be very hard to snatch him in this January.
