Liverpool boss *drum rolls* Brendan Rodgers has distanced himself from the Manchester United manager’s job. (Be careful what you wish for United fans, it can always get worse). Rodgers was speaking to the SportsBreakfast and when he was asked what he thought about taking the Old Trafford job Rodgers replied: “When you manage Liverpool you know that the Man United job is gone.” (even if he hadn’t managed Liverpool I wouldn’t be too confident about his chances of managing United).
Brendan Rodgers made a name for himself at Swansea City where he was dubbed as the next big thing but things haven’t gone according to plan for Rodgers who is currently without a job. Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool on October 4 after a disappointing start to the season and after last night’s win over Stoke City, the club would be ecstatic with their decision. New manager Jurgen Klopp has helped Liverpool reach a cup final after just 3 months in charge, something which Rodgers couldn’t do in 3 seasons!
Liverpool got the better of their semi-final opponents Stoke City in the penalty shootouts and while fans across the world had some nervy moments watching the shootout, ex-manager Rodgers was busy celebrating his birthday. No wonder, Liverpool fans didn’t like him.
There were rumours that Liverpool striker Christian Benteke could be on his way out in the summer because he does not fit into Jurgen Klopp’s plans but Brendan Rodgers dismissed the speculation He tried to sign him for Dortmund. He knows he’s a good player. He met the boy, he met the agent, he met them in Germany, so he knows he’s a good player.
Christian Benteke hasn’t had too much of an impact on Liverpool but Brendan Rodgers has explained why he signed the Belgian in the summer and wants people to give him some time. “I took him to Liverpool in the summer because we were really short of goals and the one thing he does give you is goals, but obviously it’s going to take him time to get up to the way the team wants to play and Jurgen wants to press.”
