If there was one player who was the most unfortunate to miss out in India’s World Cup squad – it has to be Ambati Rayudu. The right-hander was expected to be part of the World Cup squad as he had performed consistently at the troublesome number four position for the India National Cricket Team.
However, Rayudu’s name was to be seen nowhere when the selectors announced India’s World Cup. It was a like a bolt from the blue as everyone was expecting Rayudu to be part of the World Cup squad.
Rayudu had deserved his place in the World Cup squad.
However, selectors had other plans as rookie all-rounder Vijay Shankar was selected ahead of Rayudu. Consequently, Rayudu took to his Twitter account to take a dig at national selectors. He said that he has ordered a new set of 3-D glasses to watch the World Cup on TV.

Meanwhile, Ambati Rayudu’s current form played a big role in his ouster. Rayudu’s run had dried up in the ODI series against Australia. He was also dropped from the last three ODI matches against Australia. Furthermore, his performances in the IPL haven’t been up to the mark as he has scored 138 runs in eight innings.
On the other hand, Rayudu had done a decent job while batting at number four position. In fact, he was the leading run-scorer on the tour of New Zealand as he had scored 190 runs in five innings. He had scored a fine knock of 91 runs when the chips were down in the final ODI game.
Consequently, it was a surprising decision from the Indian selectors when they decided to leave Rayudu from the World Cup squad. The right-hander has thus far scored 1690 runs at an average of 47.04 in the 55 ODI matches he has played.
