Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) openers Jonny Bairstow (80*) and David Warner (67) once again produced a scintillating opening display to topple 160 runs set by Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed the visitors by 9 wickets to register their fifth win of the season.
David Warner and Jonny Bairstow once again got Sunrisers Hyderabad off to a blistering start. They dominated the bowling in the initial overs to almost knock Kolkata Knight RIders out of the game. They added 72 runs in the powerplays – the best in the tournament so far to set the tone for the chase. Meanwhile, Warner was the aggressor of the two taking the Kolkata bowlers to bonkers.
The two added 131 runs for the first wicket before debutant Yarra Prithviraj dismissed Warner for 67. Bairstow and Kane Williamson then took the Sunrisers home with five overs remaining.
Previously, Chris Lynn powered Kolkata Knight Riders to 159 after a stunning bowling effort from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Sunil Narine and Lynn combined well to give the visiting team a flying start. They added 42 runs in just 2.4 overs before a change of pace delivery from Khaleel Ahmed got the better of Narine (25). The wicket of Narine opened roads for Hyderabad as they picked three more wickets to have Kolkata at 73 for four.
Since then, Lynn partnered with Rinku Singh to bail his side out of danger. Lynn stood tall from one end rotating the strike to cross the 100-run mark. Although Rinku (30) got out, Lynn got to his fifty and took Kolkata Knight Riders to post a good total on the board.

This #IPL, Warner hasn’t been dismissed by spin even once. Tonight might change that stat. #SRHvKKR

These two, Warner and Bairstow are at it again. Demoralising for the youngsters in the #KKR team. Feel for Cariappa.

The Bairstow-Warner duet. One is left-handed. And the other one is right-handed. But you can see a lot of similarities in terms of their strokeplay. Long-lost brothers #SRHvKKR

So KKR suffering from lack of options in this season? The limited squad doesn't always work out, did last year. This year, Russell alone won them more games.

SRH have registered 100+ opening partnerships 10 times in the IPL.
David Warner has been involved in all 10 100+ opening partnerships (6 with Dhawan and 4 with Bairstow)

KKR struggle big time batting first. Many teams struggle but KKR are just depending too much on Russell to get them to a par score

Sensational over from Rashid, leaving fellow leggie Chawla heaving and huffing cluelessly

Not sure who Lynn played for that game.

Forget the ball, first of all Andre Russell should hit Piyush Chawla out of the ground from his bat.#SRHvKKR

This was a 190+ pitch. KKR finished well short. Promoting Russell may have been a risk, but well worth it
