Before India whitewashed Australia in the T20 series Australia clinched the ODI series 4-1. In all five matches, India batting first in the first two ODIs came short of 30-40 runs even after scoring 300. And while came to chase the target suffered a big collapse. Captain MS Dhoni, who is known as one of the best finishers of world cricket, but his bat did not click throughout the series, as a result, India’s death over was up to the mark.
Throughout the series Indian top order has battered ordinary Australian bowling attack but suffered a big collapse in the last 10 overs that affected India’s fortune. India needed a batsman who could finish the job. Everyone relied on MS Dhoni. But the batsman failed to do that. Nevertheless, his failure as a captain drew flak from every cricket fraternity.
Probably he was also frustrate with his own performance. But in the last ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground, where India chased down 331 with six wickets in hand Dhoni hit a six in the first ball of the last over that made easy for Manish Pandey to do the rest of the job.
Manish Panday’s 81 balls 104 won India the match, but Dhoni’s one six at the crucial time also facilitate Pandey’s job.
But, in the fourth ODI at Canberra, where Indians were in the match till 44 overs lost their last nine wickets for only 51 runs.
At the press conference, Dhoni was bombarded by the question why he could not finish the innings. The captain in a hilarious tone described the reason why he failed to finish the innings.
