World champions Australia had to face serious humiliation against New Zealand in the first ODI at Eden Park in Auckland. McCullum’s boys were always on top of the Australians and the Kiwis were at their aggressive best against the Trans-Tasman rivals. Brendon McCullum began his final limited overs series in typical style as he blasted the Aussie bowlers in his brief cameo. Martin Guptill continued his good form and New Zealand ended their innings on a healthy 307-8 in 50 overs.
Considering Australia’s recent ODI form against India, it should have been a really interesting game. But the Australian batsmen never showed up and forfeited to the fury of the Kiwi bowlers. Trent Boult had another fantastic outing as he grabbed 3 wickets. The hosts won the game by a colossal margin of 159 runs.
Fans on Twitter were disappointed by Australia’s lackluster performance and ridiculed the Kangaroos. Below are some of the tweets.

NZ didn’t read the script. Chappell-Hadlee matches at Eden Park are meant to be low-scoring thrillers. Australia did their part. #nzvaus

#NZvAUS With the kind of performance against the Aussies, New Zealand is proving out to be a competent side if not a tough team this T20 WC!
