India’s talisman batsman Shikhar Dhawan believes that confidence, as well as a calm head, will win the team more matches. It is all about handling the pressure in a big event like the World Cup and Dhawan believes whosoever will handle it better, will have more chances of going all the way in the ODI showpiece.

Dhawan is going to hold the key for the Indian team as he is one of the vital cogs in India’s wheel for the World Cup. In fact, Dhawan’s penchant of scoring big in the major ICC events is well known. He has two Champions Trophy golden bats in his cabinet and he was India’s leading run-getter in the 2015 World Cup.

We are confident.

“I understand that everyone’s emotions are high, but high emotions are not going to win you matches. The confidence and calmness will. It is alright even if it is the World Cup. We are not going to over think it. We back ourselves and we are confident and calm at the same time,” Dhawan said when asked if there was pressure on captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and himself to do the maximum run-scoring in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan stated the team has played consistent cricket in the last five years and he knows what is expected of them. Dhawan knows everyone knows their respective roles and they are a confident unit.

“We have been doing well for five years now, so nothing is going to change. We have scored so many centuries, broken

so many records, so we know how to do it,” said Dhawan.

On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have done the lion share of the scoring for the team. However, Dhawan believes that the other batsmen have also chipped in their contribution at crucial times.

Others have contributed.

“It is not just the three of us, the other boys have chipped in as well. There have been times when the three of us did not do well but Kedar (Jadhav), Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) did the job. Hardik (Pandya) has been amazing and KL Rahul is there as well,” said Dhawan.

Vijay Shankar is also added to India’s World Cup squad and Dhawan stated the all-rounder is a talented batsman. Furthermore, Dhawan is confident that the team will tick the right boxes.

“Vijay Shankar has come in, he’s a talented boy. So, we have a great squad and we are very confident that we’re going to do great in the World Cup,” he said.

Shikhar Dhawan is in good form in the ongoing IPL while playing for Delhi Capitals. The southpaw batsman has scored 451 runs in 12 matches he has played. Thus, Dhawan will like to keep up the same form going.
