Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed as the next president of Marbylone Cricket Club. The former flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman has become the first non-British President of the MCC. Sangakkara will begin his tenure from 1st October 2019 and will hold office for a period of one year.
The current President, Anthony Wreford, made the announcment at the MCC Annual General Meeting on Wednesday at Lord’s. In fact, Kumar Sangakkara is already engaged with the MCC and he is delighted by a new position.

Sangakkara gets a major role.
“It is a huge honour to be named the next President of MCC and it is a role that I am thoroughly looking forward to. For me, MCC is the greatest cricket club in the world, with its global reach and continued progress for cricket on and off the pitch,” Sangakkara was quoted as saying on the Lord’s website.
Meanwhile, Kumar Sangakkara had also delivered MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture in 2011. On the other hand, the southpaw batsman had made his appearance on the honour’s twice in 2014.

“As MCC looks to broaden both our horizons and international reputation, I’m delighted that Kumar has accepted the invitation, which he did in January this year, to be the next President of MCC. He is an outstanding individual both on and off the field and will make a huge contribution to the Club. In a World Cup and Ashes year he will also have a significant role to play as President Designate,” MCC President, Anthony Wreford said.
Meanwhile, Kumar Sangakkara’s tenure will include a Test match between Windies and Pakistan. Furthermore, the launch of the 100th competition.
On the other hand, Kumar Sangakkara was currently seen providing his inputs in the ongoing Indian Premier League for the host broadcaster. Sangakkara is regarded as one of the best Sri Lankan batsmen ever produced by the country.
