Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar showers words of praise on him and called him an important player in the Virat Kohli-led Indian team for ICC World Cup 2019.
Sunil Gavaskar feels that the form of MS Dhoni is going to be brilliant for the team. He quoted that the batting of MS Dhoni will be crucial when the top three batsmen of India go back for a cheap score in the tournament.

Further, Sunil Gavaskar also quoted that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will ensure the Indian team reach a safe tally on the board even if the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan go back for a cheap score.
“I think it will be very important because we have a fabulous top-three. But in case the top-three don’t make their usual contribution, then Dhoni’s contribution down the order, whether it’s at number four or five, will make a big difference in India posting a defendable total,” Gavaskar told PTI on Thursday.
Also, Gavaskar quoted that the presence of MS Dhoni is the must for the Indian team. He explained that MS Dhoni’s partnership with Virat Kohli has always been brilliant for the team. He is hopeful of Mahendra Singh Dhoni having a good time in the grand event.
“…(Virat) Kohli, whose brilliant fielding makes it imperative for him to stand in the deep, at long-off/long-on may be, is unable to see those little changes of the back-ward point fielder moving a little bit to his right or little bit to his left, similarly square-leg fielder moving.

Further, he went on to add saying that MS Dhoni guidance to the bowlers will be handy for the team. Sunil Gavaskar strongly believes that each member in the tournament will get great learning from the former skipper of India.
“…we have seen the wicket-keeping skills that he has. But more importantly as somebody who stands close to the wicket, guiding the spinners where to bowl, guiding the other bowlers also where to ball and making those little field adjustments. So those are the kind of changes Dhoni will be able to bring about with Kohli’s, of course, full backing as well,” he elaborated.
“And when you have somebody who’s actually been in a position where he’s taken the stress and taken the team to a win as he did in 2011 (World Cup), that is invaluable in your team. So Dhoni’s contribution is going to be massive,” Gavaskar signed off.
Well, as Sunil Gavaskar said, Dhoni’s form will be crucial for the team. His batting in the middle-order will be the key for India during the crunch times of the tournament. Dhoni’s guidance to the spinners during the course of the match will also be a great advantage.
