Delhi Capitals needed a Rishabh Pant’s type innings to get over the finishing line and the southpaw delivered when it mattered the most. The left-hander played a blistering knock of 49 runs from 21 balls with the help of two fours and five sixes. However, Pant could not finish off the match when only five runs were needed for the win. Thus, he also shared his disappointment in the post-match presentation.

The Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman went for another big shot but lost his grip on the bat and Mohammed Nabi took a fine catch. Subsequently, there were some jitters after Amit Mishra was dismissed the obstructing the field. However, Keemo Paul kept his calm to finish the match with a four and gave Delhi Capitals a two wickets win.

Rishabh Pant scored a fine knock.

Rishabh Pant catapulted his attack against Basil Thampi in the 18th over of the innings. Delhi Capitals were able to get 22 runs off that over and it was the turning point of the match.

Earlier, Prithvi Shaw brought his ‘Show’ to the table as the flamboyant batsman scored a fine knock of 56 runs off 38 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.

Rishabh Pant said in the post-match presentation, “If you are set, you have to finish it for your team. Next time, I will try to finish it for my team as I got very close tonight. I just try to be positive. In T20s, you have to have a big over. We practice every day with the same set of bowlers and we see the ball and not the bowler. Today, I didn’t try to hit it too hard and focused on timing”.

The match went down to the wire and Pant would have been happy to end on the right side of the result. Pant scored a fine knock as he was able to set up the match for Delhi Capitals. He would have liked to finish off the match but could not add the finishing touches to the innings.

Delhi Capitals will play Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier on 10th May at the same venue of Visakhapatnam.
