It was a make or break season in the IPL for David Warner and the southpaw accepted the offer with both hands and finished as the leading run scorer of the tournament despite playing just 12 matches in the tournament. The southpaw had to miss the 2018 edition of the IPL due to the infamous ball-tampering scandal.

The comeback from David Warner definitely showed the determination of the player who wants to succeed at the highest level. His run-scoring form will be of huge importance if Australia harbour hopes of defending their World Cup Trophy. The southpaw also won the Orange Cap for finishing as the leading run scorer of the tournament. He scored 692 runs in 12 matches with 8 fifties and a century.

He finished the tournament with a great average of 69.20 and an exceptional strike rate of 143.86. His knock of an unbeaten century came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He was so far ahead in the chart that none of the batters could even get close to his tally of runs even after the conclusion of the playoffs.

Warner who couldn’t be present in the stadium to take his orange cap award during the post-match presentation in the final left a message for his fans. He termed IPL as the best T20 League all across the globe.

“It’s an honour to win the Orange Cap. We batsmen don’t play this game for awards, we try to win. Big credit to our curators at Hyderabad, they prepare great wickets and feel great to play in front of those crowds. I am privileged to be a part of this tournament it’s the best league in the world. Thank you very much,” David Warner said in a recorded message at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I am very emotional to be a part of this. This contest has been going on back and forth, other guys have been going at it as well. Hopefully next season we go all the way and I can collect the keys myself,” David Warner said.
