As the countdown to the 7th edition of the Indian Premier League is underway, SPORTZWIKI takes a look back at the previous edition of the IPL and churns out the most interesting facts in what was arguably the most controversial and exciting season of the IPL yet.
1. Mr. Cricket : Michael Hussey is the one of only two batsmen to score more than 700 runs in any IPL season, the other being Chris Gayle. But Hussey’s 733 runs in IPL VI is the highest ever run tally by any batsman in any IPL season.
2. The thrill of the ‘Super Over’ : Two matches in IPL VI went right down to the wire and needed a ‘Super Over’ to decide the winner. While Sunrisers Hyderabad triumphed over RCB in match no. 7, RCB defeated Delhi in match no. 21.
3. Duck : Ashish Nehra of Delhi Daredevils and West Indian pace Ravi Rampaul of RCB were dismissed on a duck thrice out of 10 innings in IPL VI.
4. Centurions : 4 batsmen smashed centuries in IPL VI : Chris Gayle demolished the Pune Warriors bowling with 175 off just 66 deliveries, while Shane Watson slaughtered the CSK attack with a cracking 101 and David Miller showed glimpses of his ability with a match winning 101 against RCB. Suresh Raina is the other centurion in the list with 100 against Pune Warriors India.
5. Five wicket haul : Rajasthan Royals bowler James Faulkner is the only bowler to pick up five wickets twice against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL VI.
6. Most sixes in a single match : West Indian hurricane Chris Gayle blew the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rahul Sharma away with a record 17 sixes in 1 match. Phew!
7. Highest seventh wicket partnership : Harbhajan Singh and Kieron Pollard notched up 65 runs in a partnership for the seventh wicket in IPL VI against CSK.
8. Maximum not outs : Kieron Pollard of Mumbai Indians holds the record for the most not outs in IPL VI, a total of 8 in 18 innings for the West Indian all-rounder.
9. Nine teams : Nine teams took part in IPL VI with the Sunrisers Hyderabad being the only new team in the sixth edition.
10. A 10-wicket win : Chennai Super Kings became the only team to register a 10 wicket victory in IPL VI when they overcame Kings XI Punjab at Mohali.
