Kevin Pietersen might be no longer favored by the English selectors, but that hasn’t bogged the charismatic right hander down a bit. Pietersen, who these days in seen plying his trade for T20 franchises across the globe, is currently representing the Quetta Gladiators in the inaugural Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Pietersen, in a recent interview, admitted that he was enjoying his stint in PSL and was ecstatic by his side’s dominating performance in the tournament. “When you have lots of cricketers coming together for a short space of time, you need to have individuals who gel together to create a happy team,” said star Pietersen. “You have to let individuals do whatever they want to, understand how they benefit the team and just let them enjoy themselves.”
Pietersen also praised Quetta coach Moin Khan for his efforts and said, “You cannot have a coach that does drills after drills.” “Moin Khan is wonderful that way. What he does well is that he’s extremely relaxed. Moiny sits there, no pads, no notes. He is very articulate and clever from a cricketing sense. If he needs to say something, he will point it out instantly. But otherwise he lets us do what we want and the results are showing,” Pietersen said.
Praising skipper Sarfaraz Khan for his captaincy, Pietersen said, “Sarfraz has been absolutely brilliant. The way he rotates strike in terms of bowlers from each end, the brains he has got. But more than anything, he’s open to taking advice from anybody on the field. It is a wonderful skill because not many captains ask younger players or seniors. He asks anybody, no ego, no nonsense, just asks ‘what do you think’ and then makes his decisions. That’s brilliant for the team.”
