Former West Indies cricketer Sir Vivian Richards has backed Virat Kohli ahead of the ICC world cup. Virat Kohli was often notoriously portrayed by media for his attitude in his initial playing days. However, the West Indies legend thinks that the Indian skipper reminds him of his own game.

He also revealed that it is not arrogance but a way to shut the critics who point at Virat Kohli. It is a known fact that Virat Kohli has been the backbone of Indian batting lineup for at least six years now. His incredible level of consistency and physical stamina is way beyond than his contemporary players.

Ever since he became captain in 2017 across formats, Virat Kohli has led the team from the front. His batting reached a whole different level. On the other hand, he defended his teammates and backed them for success. This saw Indian cricket team get some historic wins across the globe.

“I love guys like that. People talk about arrogance but it is about believing in yourself. It is like having the keys to your home, Virat has something similar now (know all the entry and exits). I had it in my time, he has it now.

“I have always loved Indian batsmanship. The confidence he is blessed with you can’t get that overnight. Either it’s instilled in you or you are born with it. He is a fighter and defends his teammates more than anyone else. “

It is certainly high praise from an all time great like Sir Vivian Richards. The Indian skipper is setting new benchmarks in world cricket and will hope to win World Cup this summer.

It’s Not Arrogance, Says Viv Richards

Although, many critics call Virat Kohli as an arrogant cricketer, Viv Richards explains about it. He reveals that it is a self belief to face against any bowler in the world.

With world cup looming quick, Virat is looking to deliver his best batting performance. The 30-year old had scored a world cup hundred on his debut.

“It’s not arrogance, he fancies himself against anybody in the world and that I think is the right way to play. Every great player looks forward to being on the biggest stage and every such player wants to come out winning a cup. That’s what Kohli has with him,” Richards said at India Today’s Salaam Cricket 2019.

Despite winning the World Cup in 2011, Virat Kohli hopes to win it again as a skipper this summer. Although, there are other sides like England and Australia, India should fancy their chances. They have done extremely well in the 50-over events in England in the last decade.

India will take on South Africa in their first World Cup game on June 5 at Ageas Bowl. They will definitely be looking to start on a winning note.
