Yuvraj Singh called time on his glittering cricket career, which spanned close to 19 years and over 400 matches, in an emotional press conference in Mumbai on Monday. Wishes poured in from all parts of the world for one of India’s most-loved cricketers. One among them was Afghanistan’s, Rashid Khan.

The celebrated cricketer and one of the biggest match-winners the country has ever produced ended a career which spanned 19 years after he made his debut in the ICC KnockOut Trophy in Kenya.

Straightway, he impressed in his the very first match he got to bat against Australia, scoring a match-winning 84 against the likes of Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie.

There was a time when whatever Yuvraj Singh touched turned into gold. He earned the reputation of being a big-match player. And also, he showcased that from time and again for the country, helping India win the inaugural World T20 in 2007 and then the 50-over World Cup in 2011 in India.

Yuvraj’s biggest and most important contribution though came at the 2011 50-over World Cup. It was when MS Dhoni-led India lifted the title for the first time in 28 years. Despite not being a 100 per cent, the southpaw was India’s cornerstone all through the tournament both with the bat and ball and was named Player of the tournament for his efforts.

Well, as Rashid Khan said, Yuvraj Singh is a true inspiration for many individuals in various ways. The way he played the game and the way he dealt with cancer and return with a scintillating century shows a lot about him.
