Indian cricketer Dhikhar Dhawan was ruled out of world cup on Wednesday. The 33-year old suffered a thumb injury against Australia earlier in the tournament.

However, reports later suggested that Dhawan suffered a hairline fracture in his thumb. He was expected to be out for nearly for three weeks. But Indian team management decided to see his recovery.

The medical team worked hard to make sure he recovers in time for latter stages of world cup. On the other hand, they also called Rishabh Pant as a stand by. But Dhawan’s recovery from thumb fracture is expected to heal only by mid July.

The world cup will end in mid July, so the team had announced that he was ruled out of the mega event. The 33-year old sustained the injury while facing a rising Pat Cummins bouncer. However, he continued batting and went on to score a hundred against Australia.

He was also declared Man of the match for that game. But he did not come on to field during Australia innings during the game. On the other hand, India also sustained another injury scare in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The spear head of Indian bowling, Bhuvneshwar suffered a hamstring injury against Pakistan. But the team expect him to recover in time for the latter phases of the tournament. In the mean time, Mohammad Shami will partner Jasprit Bumrah in the pace department.

KL Rahul will open India batting along with Rohit Sharma in Shikhar Dhawan’s absence.

The player showed incredible grit in his knock against Pakistan. He was pretty confident with the way he negotiated the new ball. This could only be positive news for India in Dhawan’s absence. Despite the strength of Indian bench and other players, Shikhar Dhawan is a huge miss for India and their title aspirations will take a minor dent for the time being.

Here is how Twitter reacted after Shikhar Dhawan got ruled out of world cup 2019.
