Spain legend Fernando Torres confirmed the news of his retirement Twitter as he brought down curtains on a glorious career.
Former Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea striker who currently plays for Japanese club Sagan Tosu, posted this news on his twitter account also telling about a press conference he has called on Sunday, regarding the same.
He tweeted ”I have something very important to announce. After 18 exciting years, the time has come to put an end to my football career. Next Sunday, the 23rd at 10:00AM, local time in Japan, I will have a press conference in Tokyo to explain all the details.See you there.”

Fernando Torres came from the Atletico Madrid academy and made through the first team at 17. He also helped Atletico to promote back to La Liga in 2002. He got a transfer to Liverpool after impressive 6 seasons at Atletico. He was brought to Anfield in a deal worth €38 million.
The Spaniard flourished under Rafa Benitez scoring 81 goals in 142 games for the Reds. His great form in the Premier League, made Chelsea make a move for him. Chelsea brought him to the Stamford Bridge in a deal worth €58 million in 2011. However, he didn’t enjoy the same form as he suffered a handful of injuries throughout his Chelsea days. He won the Champions league and the Europa league in 2012 and 13 respectively with Chelsea, scoring in the final of the Europa League. He also won the FA Cup with Chelsea. He scored 45 goals in 172 appearances for Chelsea and was sent on Loan to AC Milan in 2014 for a brief spell after which he was again loaned to Atletico Madrid.
He was signed by Atletico in a free transfer after his contract expired with Chelsea. He scored a total of 121 goals in 350 appearances for Atletico Madrid. He won the Europa League in 2017/18 with the team. He left Atletico in 2018 and was signed by Japanese side Sagan Tosu on a free transfer. He has scored 260 goals in 760 career appearances at club level.
With the Spanish National team he won the Euro 2008, 2012 and the World Cup in 2010. He scored a total of 38 goals in 110 appearances for the national team.
