Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag took a dig at the Indian batsmen for being so defensive against the spinners in the last two matches of the ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, the middle order has struggled to score runs quickly in the middle overs, which have put pressure on the batsmen at the death.
The Men in Blues; however, secured another victory over West Indies to keep their winning streak going. They knocked out Jason Holder & Co beating them by 125 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The bowling was of top-class led by Mohammed Shami to restrict the opponents to 143 runs while defending 268. Shami returned with four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal picked two apiece to castle the West Indies batting.

Previously, Virat Kohli led the Indian batting alongside KL Rahul after losing KL Rahul early. Jason Holder provided the breakthrough getting Rahul at 49, which led to a collapse as they struck two more to have India at 140 for four. Kohli reached his fifty only to get out at 72 before MS Dhoni, and Hardik Pandya managed to sneak a few at the end to post a challenging total.
Sehwag slams Indian batters
The way last two matches panned out has raised doubts over India’s middle order batters. They managed to score only 90 odd runs in the last 20 overs against the minnow Afghanistan. Rashid Khan who got hit in the initial overs came back to slow the run-rate and thus restricting India to a small total. It was the same against West Indies as Fabien Allen, who gave away 34 runs in his first five overs returned to give only 18 in his next five helping West Indies restrict the run flow.

In both the occasions, MS Dhoni was at the receiving end, and Virender Sehwag slammed them for letting the spinners dominate the game. He also said that the batters can’t be defensive against the spinners.
“Rashid Khan had gone for 25 in 4 overs , gave away only 13 in his next 6 and today Fabian Allen had given 34 in 5 overs, only 18 in next 5. Can’t be so defensive against the spinners,” Sehwag tweeted.
