With ICC World Cup 2019 fever even catching the no-so-interested layman, betting has been on a high across the cricketing world. It’s the time when bookies try to make money by betting. Mumbai police have busted a betting racket during their raid in one of the hotels in Dadar East. Pertinently, senior cop Bharat Bhoite led from the front to nab four men which included a police sub-inspector from South Mumbai’s Byculla on Tuesday.

Notably, police also got hold of the sub-inspector, which took eventually many by surprise.

As per the report in multiple dailies, the culprits were assessing a website for the cricket betting activities. Also, the Indian Express revealed the four men. Police identified the culprits as sub-inspector Gyaneshwar Kharmate, Manish Vijay Singh, Prakash Ghanshyam and the 33-year-old Mikin Shah.

However, the police officials are keen to know Kharmate’s role in the betting activity.

“During the inquiry, he claimed to be a friend of Mikin… We are investigating whether he was getting monetary benefits from the racket, or was himself involved in the betting circles,” the police officer told India Express.

Also, during a raid following a tip-off the police has seized mobile phones. Pertinently, the cell phones recovered were worth INR 1.93 crore.

Furthermore, the reports suggested that a gang of four were coordinating with Mehul Jain and Panter over the phone for conducting the betting. The duos, who were maintaining the website are on the run according to the police.

The Mumbai-based police made arrests under the Public Gambling Act of 1867. Following their appearance at the Bhoiwada Court on June 26, they were released on bail.
