With Shikhar Dhawan being ruled out from the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019, a lot of speculations have been made on the partner for Rohit Sharma. India asked KL Rahul to do the job for the team in absence of Shikhar Dhawan, but, unfortunately, he is failing to get big tallies on the board. Meanwhile, a section of experts and fans felt Rishabh Pant open. However, the former swashbuckling opening batsman Virender Sehwag can’t see that coming.

Rishabh Pant has been called into the team as the replacement of Shikhar Dhawan. Finally, he got the opportunity to bat at number 4 when Vijay Shankar failed to utilise his opportunity. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag speaks on the possibility of Pant opening the innings.

Ahead of the clash, Virender Sehwag was asked whether Pant should open alongside Rohit Sharma for India and the former Indian cricketer came up with an epic and hilarious reply.

Rishabh Pant will thrash every bowler – Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag quoted that the current Indian team got the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, who can do the job for the team in any conditions across the world. However, Sehwag feels that Rishabh Pant can open the innings for the team after 5 years.

He quoted that either of Rohit or Shikhar will turn 37 years by that time and would be closing to their retirement. Virender Sehwag feels that Pant would open at that time for India and smash everyone.

”He (Pant) will open, but after five years, for sure. Because in Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit, India have the best openers, in the world. And they are both like…32. Therefore, after five years, where they will turn 37, Pant can become an opener and he will thrash everybody,” Virender Sehwag quoted.

Well, as Virender Sehwag said, India would love to see Rishabh Pant opening the innings for India. Meanwhile, he will continue in the same number 4 role for the team in the rest of the tournament. He will be under pressure with Dinesh Karthik waiting for his turn.
