What an over it was from Angelo Mathews on the other day against Windies? He delivered right in his first delivery to dismiss Nicholas Pooran, which was heartbreak for Windies side. However, it was too late to bag a victory for Sri Lanka, as they failed to seal the spot in Semi-finals.

The 50-over World Cup is the biggest stage for any cricketer and when one is playing as a senior batsman in a team filled with youngsters, you expect for him to lead from the front. But sadly, that has not been the case for Angelo Mathews. The former skipper has managed just 131 runs from six games with a fifty in the ongoing edition of the World Cup.

Sri Lankan side had high expectations from Mathews, who is among the senior players, but he failed to deliver on the big stage. But that doesn’t mean that he is looking to shut shop. In fact, the all-rounder is looking to get back to bowling more regularly post the World Cup.

I want to start my bowling soon – Angelo Mathews

Further, the all-rounder of Sri Lanka has quoted that he isn’t eyeing retirement any sooner, as he is just 32 years old. He wants to concentrate on winning the matches for India and also start bowling, which helps the team to get much-required balance.

“Look I am still 32, so I want to play a few more years and look where I am. I want to start bowling soon because that can contribute towards the team in a big way. Unfortunately, I couldn’t build my bowling up before the World Cup and will look to contribute in all departments in the future,” he said.

India is one of the best teams:

And also, he spoke on the upcoming clash against the Indian National Cricket Team, who has been on top of their game at present. Despite that, he believes that any team can beat any opposition on their day.

“See, India is playing very good cricket, but so is Australia, New Zealand and England. Anyone can beat any team on any given day. It is about playing well on the day,” he pointed.

Well, it would be interesting to see how Angelo Mathews would come against India. If Angelo Mathews can come good with the ball for Sri Lanka, soon, they would end their troubles on International platform.
