In One-off Test against Ireland at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium in London, England lost their seven wickets at the score of 43 in 14.2 overs. The paceman Tim Murtagh had produced a sensational spell with the new ball. The promising bowler had snared five wickets while delivering his first eight overs on Wednesday (April 24).
Earlier, the Three Lions skipper Joe Root had won the toss to bat first and what followed had been termed as a major show from the Irish bowlers, particularly Murtagh, who had made the ball talk straightaway.
England openers and old-school friends Rory Burns and Jason Roy had shown some resistance, but that was not enough for the England camp. Burns faced 25 deliveries for his six, whereas Roy consumed 11 balls for five. Well, both openers were removed by Murtagh.
The wicketkeeper Gary Wilson had claimed a regulation catch of Burns. On the other side, Roy was the first to go when Paul Stirling claimed a simple catch.
The top-order batsman Joe Denly 23 (38) had been trapped in front of the wickets by Mark Adair.
Adair had also found Joe Root 2 (7) in front of the wickets. Besides, wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes had returned to the pavilion even without opening their account on the bowling of Murtagh.
Tim Murtagh on fire at Lord’s:

With the wicket of Ali, Murtagh has become the first Irish bowler to snare the five-wicket haul. He had also made it to the honours board by achieving the milestone at the age of 37.
The experienced campaigned had made most of the conditions with the ball in hand.
Sam Curran managed to score 16-ball 18 before James McCollum had claimed a good catch on the bowling of Boyd Rankin.
Stuart Broad had faced 16 deliveries for his three as Rankin had the last laugh.
In between, debutant Olly Stone 19 (18) and Jack Leach had shown some resistance with the bat.
Ireland had bowled out England at 85 in 23.4 overs. Adair had claimed three wickets with Rankin settling with two.
Murtagh starred with the ball by bowling nine overs to concede 13 runs for five wickets.

Fair to assume England are shot mentally after the WC – geez I know I still am and I wasn’t even playing – but let’s take nothing away from a brilliant performance by Ireland’s bowlers and a morning that will mean so much to the team. ☘️ #ENGvIRE
