And, finally, Shubman Gill receives the call-up for Indian National Cricket Team in the Test format of the game. The youngster, who recently smashed a double century in West Indies, asked to don the Indian Jersey for the longer version of the game. Meanwhile, Twitterati congratulates the youngster.
Shubman Gill got a maiden Test call up while out-of-form opener KL Rahul was axed from the India squad for the three-Test series against South Africa. The absence of Umesh Yadav is the only other change in the 15-man squad from the one that won 2-0 in West Indies recently.

KL Rahul dropped, Shubman Gill called-in:
Regular ODI opener Rohit Sharma will don the same role in Tests as well, which was confirmed by the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad. Also, fast bowler, Umesh Yadav doesn’t find a place in the squad as India have pruned their 16-member squad from the West Indies tour to just 15 players for the upcoming series.
There were no other surprises in the Indian side for the 3 Test matches. Ranked no.1 in the ICC Test rankings, India also leads the points table in the World Test Championship with 120 points after crushing West Indies in both matches.

The Committee also picked the Board President’s XI team for a three-day warm-up game to be played in Vizianagaram from September 26th. Rohit Sharma will lead the side and most likely open the innings.
India are scheduled to play three Tests against South Africa. The first match will of the series be played in Vizag, second in Pune and third in Ranchi. The three-match series will begin after the culmination of three-match T20I series.
Shubman Gill has been rewarded for his good form recently that saw him score runs plenty for India ‘A’. He has replaced KL Rahul, who didn’t have a good outing in West Indies. Gill has earlier expressed his disappointment for not making it into any of the three teams travelling for West Indies but his time has finally come now.
Here are a few tweets:
So Rohit will open as was likely. Glad Shubman has been included. So he is the back up who will now be readied and I have always felt he is one for the future.

Happy to see #ShubmanGill get a spot in the Indian test team. He's had a fantastic domestic season this year and it'll be brilliant if he can continue his form at the international level. Here's hoping he gets to make his test debut in the upcoming series against South Africa. ?
