Atharva Ankolekar, the U-19 spin bowler, contributed a big part in India win in U-19 Asia Cup 2019 held in Colombo. His five-wicket haul helped the Indian team to make a comeback in the match and lift the trophy.
The Asia cup for Atharva Ankolekar was commendable. He took wickets when the team was in need. He comes from a background where his parents have achieved everything with hard work. Atharva’s mother is a bus conductor who backed her child to become a cricketer. His father died at an early age so his mother is the only source of income. He was just 10 when he had to phase the tough time since then his mother has been his inspiration. Atharva is following the footsteps of his father who encouraged him to play cricket.

Atharva’s hard work has paid him to achieve fame. He one by one took the wicket of Bangladesh players. Unfortunately, Bangladesh lost the match because of their batters poor performance.

Atharv’s Contribution in Asia Cup 2019

India’s batting performance in the final match was disappointing but the bowler’s helped to lift the trophy. India was 8 for 3 when Shahwat Rawat and Dhruv Chand Jurel partnership gave some weight to the match. Batting department selected wrong shots and gave catch in the hand to the Bangladesh players. India was all out on 106 runs. Karan Lara was the highest scorer of India in the match with 37 runs.
Bangladesh’s batting starts with Akash Singh’s wicket of Tanzid Hasan. Akash picked three crucial wickets. With good support of Akash, Atharva easily took five wickets of Shadat Hossain, Akbar Ali, Shamim Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Shahin Alam.

Atharv’s bowling attack destroyed the partnership of Bangladesh players by taking the wicket of Akbar Ali. Later, Atharv was declared as the player of the match.
