MS Dhoni‘s sabbatical break has given the chance to the youngster Rishabh Pant. The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman is the priority for the team management for T20 World Cup 2020 scheduled in Australia. Chief Selector MSK Prasad has an advice for the youngster.

Rishabh Pant is currently facing a bad time in his career. He has an unimpressive figure in the shortest format. The Delhi lad has played 23 T20Is and has scored 358 runs at an average of 19.88 at the striking rate of 118.15. The wicket-keeper batsman has too little impact on the team’s performance.

After his disappointing performances in the Bangladesh T20I series, it was expected the player will be dropped from the upcoming West Indies series but the team management has backed the player. He is selected in the forthcoming T20I and ODI series against Windies. Prasad expressed that Rishabh needs some time to get back to his form

Rishabh is going through a bit of a rough period. He needs a couple of good knocks that can bring him back to his best. I had a discussion with the team management on this and they said that they are seriously working on him to bring him back to his best,”

Rishabh Pant Should not compare himself with MS Dhoni: Prasad

Rishabh Pant is taking an added pressure to perform like MS Dhoni, opined Prasad. He advises the youngster to not copy the style of the experienced Dhoni and not try to fit in someone else’s shoes. When Rishabh Pant will start playing his own game, he will be successful added Prasad.

“Rishabh should also realise that he has his own identity and he should never compare himself with MSD which I feel is working on his mind. MSD has built his career and image playing for over a decade and a half. His confidence stems from his stellar performances both at domestic and international levels.

Suddenly when one starts comparing himself with that legend, then subconsciously you are putting enormous pressure on yourself. Personally I feel Rishabh is an unbelievable talent and he should believe and back his abilities and instincts rather than stepping into someone else’s shoes,”
