Hardik played the T20I series against South Africa before being ruled out of the Test series as he felt the pain in his back. It was not the first time when the player was suffering from a back injury. He first sustained that injury during the Asia Cup 2018 in UAE in September 2018 but recovered quickly. He then played IPL 2019 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 before the injury resurfaced.

The allrounder will return before New Zealand series

The Baroda player underwent surgery for an acute lower-back injury and is expecting to return soon in the game. He opined that he was avoiding the surgery for a long time, but he recently decided it because the allrounder felt that he was not able to give his best to the team.

“I was managing the back, tried everything possible not to get into surgery or anything. After trying everything, we came to the conclusion that it wasn’t working. I noticed that I was not able to give my 100 per cent and that meant I was not doing justice to myself and the team. That is when I decided to go for the surgery.

As per Hindustan Times, Hardik Pandya said that he would return before India’s tour of New Zealand in early next year. India team will tour New Zealand to play T20I, ODI and Test series. He explained that before the T20 World Cup 2020, he planned to perform in some international games for getting himself prepared.

I will be coming back before the New Zealand series, mid-way actually. That was the plan that I play some international games, the IPL and then the World T20. The biggest concern was the World T20 which touch wood is now in place.”
