West Indies’ combative southpaw batsman Shimron Hetmyer was roped in by Delhi Capitals for INR 7.75 Crores. The left-hander had set his base price at INR 50 lakhs and he was expected to get big in the auction after his impressive performance against the Indian team in the ongoing West Indies’ tour of India.
The left-hander scored 120 runs in the three T20I matches at an average of 40 and a blistering strike rate of 151.89. The southpaw also scored his maiden T20I fifty in the first match but his efforts went in vain as West Indies lost that game.
Hetmyer is in sublime form.
Meanwhile, the 22-year old played a whirlwind knock of 139 runs off just 106 in the first ODI with the help of 11 fours and seven sixes to help his team go 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series.
The youngster batted at the top of his game and showed no mercy for the Indian bowlers. The runs could not have come at a better time for Hetmyer as this knock has helped Hetmyer in taking a big cheque back home.
Ergo, Hetmyer will look to make the most of his form and carry the same for Delhi Capitals. The left-hander had played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2019 but he could only manage 90 runs in the five matches he played. Thus, he would like to turn the tables in the upcoming season of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have also brought in the services of Alex Carey for INR 2.40 crores. Furthermore, they have roped in England all-rounder Chris Woakes for his base price of INR 1.5 crores.
Surprisingly, Delhi Capitals also went for Jason Roy despite having a glut of openers in their side. Capitals already have Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw in their side and thus Roy’s selection at his base price of INR 1.50 crores was a bolt from the blue.
