Former Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Rashid Latif believes BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s idea of Super Series will be a flop like the big three model, which was launched a couple of years back. Ganguly has suggested that four teams including India, Australia and England and one more team will lock horns in Super Series.

The Super Series is expected to take place in 2021 and the first edition of the tournament will take place in India. The former Indian skipper disclosed the idea after he had a meeting with ECB officials in the UK along with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal.

Ganguly has initiated a new idea.

“Australia, England, India, and another top team will feature in the Super Series which begins in 2021 and the first edition of the tournament will be played in India,” Ganguly was quoted saying by Telegraph.

However, Rashid Latif believes Sourav Ganguly’s initiative will be a flop like the big three model. Rashid feels other cricketing nations will be ignored if Super Series takes place.

“By playing such a series, these four countries want to isolate the other member nations which is not good news.  But I think this will be a flop idea like the Big Three model, which was introduced a few years back,” said Latif in a YouTube video.

On the other hand, England and Wales Cricket Board have released a statement that they are open to discuss the possibility of the four-nation tournament.

“We meet regularly with other leaders from the major cricketing nations to share learnings and discuss topics that impact our sport,” said an ECB statement according to The Telegraph. “A four-nation tournament was raised at a meeting with the BCCI in December and we are open to discussions with other ICC members to see if this concept can develop.”

It would be interesting to see how things pan out for the Super Series. The audience will be excited to see the top four teams battle it out for supremacy. The best will play against the best and hence it will be worth the money for the fans.
