Team India's Selector To Speak To Shubman Gill Following On-Field Row With Umpire: Report 1

India batsman Shubman Gill has been on the receiving end from the former cricketers following his protest to leave the crease after being adjudged out by the on-field umpire. The BCCI seems to have taken a note of it as a report in Sportstar suggests that Gill will be spoken a member of the selection committee. The update does not come as a surprise as the mater became talk of the town soon after it happened.

On the opening day of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi ad Punjab, Gill was adjudged caught behind by the on-field umpire. However, he decided against leaving the field and also had an argument with umpire, forcing him to change his decision.

Delhi’s players walked off the field following in protest and the match started after a halt of 10-15 minutes. Following the incident, Bishan Singh Bedi asked to replace Gill as India A skipper.

It is unlikely that there will be a change in captaincy and Gill will be leading India A on the tour of New Zealand. Although the incident will surely see other cricketers staying away from commenting or challenging the umpires’ decision during a match.

Many players have raised their concerns regarding umpiring standards in domestic cricket and there were also reports that BCCI might use DRS in this year’s Ranji Trophy – but there is now word on it yet.

Talking of the ongoing match, Punjab are leading by 18 runs but have lost four wickets in their second innings. Delhi would hope to take early wickets on the final day and register their second win of the season.

Riding on 96 from Dhruv Shorey and Nitish Rana’s 92, the visiting team scored 339 to gain a lead of 26 runs and ensure that they get at least three points. At this point, Delhi are in the dominant position and need early wickets to bag full six points
