India and Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary vaulted into record books with a triple-century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy fixture against Hyderabad. Coming in to bat at number four with Bengal two down for 22, Tiwary rescued his team from a tough situation and steered the score ahead. He fifth wicket partnership of 190 runs with Shreevats Goswami (95) proved to the game-changer and snatched the advantage from Hyderabad.

He ended day 1 at a score of 156 and continued to pile on misery for the visiting bowlers on day 2. Tiwary got a big reprieve as he was dropped in slips on 160. The experienced campaigner made most out of the opportunity and completed his maiden triple-century with a boundary just after the tea break.

The right-handed batsman isn’t in the scheme of things to earn a recall. He last played for India A (India B) in the Deodhar Trophy 2018/19. At the start of the ongoing season, he questioned national selectors for ignoring him for the Duleep Trophy.

Tiwary last payed for India in the away series against Zimbabwe in 2015. He was later dropped and is yet to make a comeback. Given that he is 34, it is unlikely that Tiwary might get a recall. Although he continues to make attempts to earn a recall and started bowling off-spin from 2017/18 season.

Talking of his IPL career, Tiwary last played for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018. He was bought by the franchise for Rs 1 Crore but was released in the next season. He didn’t get a buyer in IPL 2019 and 2020 auction. He was in contention to be signed by one of the franchises last season but the deal wasn’t finalised. Despite being ignored, he continues to play domestic cricket in hope to make a comeback.

Meanwhile, Bengal declared the innings at 635/7. They are presently sitting at the 10th spot in the points table. With just one win in four matches, the team has 12 points in its account and will hope to bag full six points from this contest.
