In the fourth T20I match, Indian opener Rohit Sharma was rested and Sanju Samson made it to the final XI. The Kerela-based cricketer was given the charge to open the innings at Sky Stadium in Wellington. It was a golden opportunity for Samson, who was benched in the last three T20Is. But he again missed impressing as he got out in the second over of the fourth T20I.

The wicketkeeper-batsman Samson almost warmed the bench in the last home season. He was last given the chance against Sri Lanka in the T20I series. Thereon, he had an opportunity to showcase his talent. However, after smashing a maximum, he got out on the very next ball.

Similarly, on Friday  (31st January), after hitting a 94-metre six, he played an awful shot which saw Mitchell Santner completing a fine catch. He returned back to the pavilion after scoring eight off five balls. Samson has again missed grabbing the massive opportunity.

Samson’s disappointing innings brought mixed reactions from the fans. Some supported Rishabh Pant, who has been dropped from the playing XI while some expressed that Pant might be delighted to see Samson’s failure.
