England World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan feels the prospect of fielding Test and white-ball sides on the same day at different venues could be a possible option in the coming future. A shortened season might result in a cramped schedule and hence the Three Lions might have to play in two separate formats on the same day.

Earlier last month, In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, England’s 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka was called-off. England’s domestic campaign is unlikely to kickstart until May 28 and to add to the misery- the entire schedule could be canceled.

Eoin Morgan believes fielding two separate teams on the same day is ‘viable’

“I see every option being viable during this extraordinary time. Certainly, I’ve never experienced anything like it and don’t think anyone else has. If there’s an opportunity to play as much cricket as we can, I’d like to think every player would be behind it. I certainly am.” said Morgan.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 raised to a striking 27% in the space of just one day. More than 1,789 people have lost their lives and the situation is getting fatal with each passing day. “People are waiting to see what sort of impact that [the lockdown] has had on the virus and if it has slowed things down or stopped the increase in infection.” opined the 33-year-old.

According to Morgan, health and wellness is the priority at the moment and he says that cricket can wait. Morgan was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL auction for a whopping Rs 5.25 Crore. However, the IPL was later postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The availability of foreign players was also a question as international flights were canceled in order to curb the spread of the virus.

“Realistically we can’t think about playing, when our first game will be, or how many we will play until the situation is downgraded from a pandemic. As ridiculous as it sounds that’s how serious it is.” Morgan added.
