Former India fast bowler, Ashish Nehra on Sunday, voiced his support for MS Dhoni. The World Cup winner said Dhoni is still India’s 1st choice as a wicketkeeper-batsman. However, Nehra feels Dhoni has made up his mind and that he won’t be seen in India colours again.

Speculations were rife regarding Dhoni’s comeback ahead of the World T20 in Australia. IPL was supposed to be the ideal platform for the 38-year-old to finetune his form with the willow. However, with the postponement of the IPL due to the Coronavirus epidemic, Dhoni’s international future looks uncertain.
MS Dhoni is fit and India’s no.1 choice for glovework: Ashish Nehra
“Look, if MS wants to play and is fit, he is still my No. 1 choice for the wicketkeeper’s slot. Knowing MS, I don’t think he will play again for India, but you never know he can still spring another surprise. Yes, that he has not announced his retirement is a different issue. But that’s his way of dealing with the situation,” Nehra was quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

Dhoni hasn’t played any form of competitive cricket since the 2019 World Cup. He was seen sweating it out at the Chennai Super Kings’ camp in Chepauk and looked set to make a return courtesy his vintage batsmanship. His teammates have been quite optimistic about their skipper. Especially, Suresh Raina, who had recently said that Dhoni was at his best during the training.
Raina had said that the veteran showed no signs of ageing. Dhoni was hitting the ball well and was seen towering the big ones at the nets. Dhoni will not leave the scene when it comes to IPL, but having missed an opportunity to dress rehearsal for the marquee event might prove to be the end of the road in his international career.
