On Wednesday (29th April), Bollywood lost its most versatile actor Irrfan Khan, who was fighting from the disease for the last two years. He was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital after he was recovered with a colon infection on Tuesday. However, he could not survive and passed at the age of 54. His versatility in Hindi cinema is well known, but a few know, his first dream was to become a cricketer.

In an interview, Irrfan Khan revealed that he wanted to become a cricketer but could not pursue his dream because of a shortage of money. The great actor was selected for CK Nayudu Tournament which solely tells that he was a good player and had talent. He was an allrounder but could not fulfil his dream. However, with his hard work, he made the place in the film industry.

“I played cricket. I wanted to become a cricketer. I was an all-rounder and the youngest one in my team in Jaipur. I wanted to make a career out of it. I was selected for the CK Nayudu tournament I think and then I needed money and didn’t know who to ask. That day I decided I cannot pursue it. I couldn’t have asked for Rs 600 at that time,” Irrfan said in an interview to The Telegraph India.

“I needed Rs 300 for National School of Drama, which was difficult for me. My sister finally got it for me,” he added.

Irrfan also left his presence in the Hollywood industry with his movie Life of Pie. He was honoured with the Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award in 2011 while his role in biographical drama Paan Singh Tomar garnered him the National Award for Best Actor.
